Sadie was owned by an elderly couple. Both were hearing impaired and the husband was visually impaired as well. Sadie acted as their alert dog and helped them function. Not only is the family devastated by her loss, but her owners don’t have their helper.
Rescuers rounded up the pit bulls and are hoping they can be rehabilitated and adopted out. While a couple rescuers showed genuine concern, most only showed passing concern for Sadie and her family.

Even though the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Animal Care and Control were involved, the media did not pick up this story which is a shame because the publicity might have brought help to the elderly couple.

Hanover Park - This attack was never reported in the news. In comments, the owner said that the neighbors who were nice people and who loved their pets left the gate to their privacy fence open and the pit bulls got out. They invaded Buddy's yard and killed him.

Huntley - A neighbor’s pit bull invaded the yard of an elderly basset hound named Annie and a young shih tsu named Remi and severely mauled Annie. Their owner started a gofundme.
“On Thanksgiving morning, my pups, Annie (12yr old bassett hound) and Remi (1 yr old shitshu) were out in our back yard roaming our yard on their leads and the neighbors pit bull became loose from their yard and vicously attached my poor bassett hound Annie. Both of my pups were outside at the time but only Annie was attacked.
For those of you who know the breed, Annie is a very mild mannered pup, doesnt bark, is super friendly and very playful. With the attack happening on Thanksgiving our holiday was ruined.
Annie was taken to the Animal ER and went under surgery to repair the damage to her skin from the attack, she was left with numerious stitches and about a 10 inch gash, lots of bruising and in alot of pain. At her 1st checkup after the attack it was discovered that Annie's skin was not healing and that she had developed a bad infection in the upper part of her wound.
Annie had to go under a second surgery to remove the dead and rotting skin and to clean the infection out and she received new stitches and , more medications and now more healing time.
With all of this trama on my poor pup, she has issues with being out in the yard for any length of time and she barely leaves my side. Now when she is sleeping she is having nightmares, she starts to cry and growl in her sleep.
With everything that has happened with all of this, the police reports, animal control, vet bills and such, my neighbors are unwilling to help me with the expense of this, they have been issued citations and such and even animal control has a case pending against them for their dog. This is had been a very tramatic on me and my pups and has created a financial hardship.
My pups are my everything, they are my babies and are spoiled to death. Annie and Remi and inseparable, they go everywhere together and are lost without each other.
I am seeking to raise funds to help pay for her medical expenses and to make sure she is secure and happy in our yard. With all the funds raised it will pay her amounting medical bills which are currently about $2k and the remainder will be used to fence and secure the yard so that Annie and Remi will have a safe place to play.”

South Elgin - A dog owner apologized on her facebook page for saying bad things about pit bulls after a pit bull busted through her fence to attack her dog.
She said, "He came right through the fence. I can't get the image out of my head. Just seeing that massive head. body, chest coming through the fence. I put Moe behind me but it all happend so fast. he had Moe's head in his mouth so fast."

Arthur - A woman had to watch her beloved pet be mauled to death by a pack of pit bulls and Illinois law is putting a neighborhood at risk and allowing the pit bulls back with the owner. Cheryl Prez gave her daughter, Trinity, this 4-pound Maltese to keep her company, and now they want an ordinance against dangerous dogs.

Hillcrest - ‘Hillcrest Village officials learned of another dog attack in the village. During the public comment session of Wednesday’s board meeting, village resident Pam Pittman told the board that her daughter’s Pomeranian dog was attacked and killed by a pit bull in the village on Nov. 6.
The pit bull also allegedly attacked and injured another dog, causing lacerations on its’ hind legs resulting in veterinarian bills of $350. According to Pittman, the pit bull broke through the fence into a yard where both animals were. Ogle County Animal Control was contacted and the dog was deemed dangerous. The dog was released to the owner two days later and is supposed to have a muzzle on at all times.
“Something needs to be done, this is not the first time a pit bull has attacked a dog out here, it’s happened before,” said Pittman. “I’m not saying all pit bulls are like this, but I think something needs to be done.”’

Jun 24, 2014 Mount Vernon Pit bull attacked a 9-year-old neighbor boy
Mount Vernon - A dog bite incident remains under investigation following an incident Saturday at 15 Cottage St. Susan Wolfe reported that her 9-year-old son, Anthony Wolfe, had been bitten by a neighbor’s Pit Bull.
Mrs. Wolfe told Mount Vernon Police Officer Jeremiah Armstrong that a neighbor’s dog ran into her yard and bit her son while he was playing in his yard. Anthony was said to have holes in his shirt and shorts plus a puncture wound on his upper right leg.

A pair of pit bull mixes have been killing pets since last November and may be responsible for all 11 deaths to pets including the devastating home invasion attack that brutally killed three chihuahua mixes. The pit bulls jumped over a fence into the enclosed yard and then entered the home through a doggie door to kill three chihuahua mixes.
One Chihuahua mix, Cowboy, had been dragged outside and disemboweled, so a police officer put him out of his misery. Another dog, Bandit, was killed inside and the third, Sugarbutt, was still alive when police arrived, but mortally wounded.
The brutality of the attack devastated the owner who came home to to a horrific scene, but did not see the attack. Other neighbors describe the same pit bull mixes as having tried to enter their homes to kill their pets.
Last year, a pit bull killed a sheltie being walked by a mentally disabled man, and these are just the most recent in a string of pit bull problems that go back many years In Granite City. Nothing has been done and the problem seems to be getting worse.

Oak Forest - Bonnie Fouts-Bell, owner of two American Eskimo dogs, was horrified to find that her 15 year old male, Powder, was in the neighbor's yard with the neighbor's pit bull. Powder had been so severely mauled, the pit bull broke his neck, that the had to be euthanized.
The veterinarian that saw Powder after the mauling said that he believed Powders injuries were consistent with being dragged under the fence, but could not state this with certainty.
Even though the owner of the pit bull, RAUL BUSTOS, was not at home at the time, having left the pit bull unattended in the yard all day, he feels that the 15 year old dog must have wriggled under the fence into his yard to be killed by the pit bull.
BUSTOS also criticizes Power's owner because she has sprayed both her dogs and his dog when they have barking matches at the fence. An interesting question to pose to BUSTOS would be "What did you do to stop the barking at the fence?"
Police chief Greg Anderson said that they could only send letters of recommendations to the owners to prevent the pit bull from killing again. Anderson told Bouts-Bell that it is she who should make her fence pit bull proof.

Mar 19, 2012 Wonder Lake Man Suffers 100 Puncture Wounds in Home Invasion Pit Bull Attack
Wonder Lake – The dog is described as a brown male pit bull or American bull dog weighing about 100 pounds with a black muzzle and a 6 by 8 inch patch of white on its check, according to the health department.
The homeowner who suffered possible nerve and tendon damage in the attack was standing in front of his home on the 7600 block of Cedar Road on March 11 when the dog entered his garage and attacked his dog.
The man, who was seriously injured in the attack, will likely undergo rabies vaccinations, Quackenbush said.

Sep 21, 2009 Two Mt. Vernon Pit Bulls Invade Store
Mt. Vernon – An employee of Tots to Teens contacted police at 8:44 a.m. Saturday after two pit bulls entered the business through a back door that was accidentally left open. The employee went to another room and shut the door until the dogs left. The animal warden was contacted, and the dogs were picked up at the owner’s home, according to police reports.

Letter to the Editor:
I have been a long time supporter for the ASPCA, Humane Society and other animal-caring organizations.
When I read the story in the Pantagraph Sept. 19 about loose pit bulls breaking into the house and mauling one of their four helpless cats to death, while the mom and her children helplessly looked on, it made me so upset and angry.
We're always hearing of horror stories involving these pit bulls, mainly because of irresponsible owners who have given this breed their bad reputation. That's why in this small community, we need to make a example of this heart-breaking incident and hold the dog owners responsible for the grief they have caused this family, their children and the family's own pets.
What's the problem here, when responsible pet owners can't even keep their own pets safe in their own home?
This horrific incident by the way, happened in Meadows, which is only 10 miles down the road from us here in Chenoa.
This needs to be properly addressed in order to avoid any further pain, heartache and needless cruelty in the future, for those who cannot defend themselves! I am a concerned pet owner and loyal supporter of all our animal welfare organizations.

Mar 15, 2007 Attacks By Pit Bull Dogs Reported To Smithton Board
Smithton - Residents of the Field Stone Subdivision spoke to the Smithton village Board about two recent pit bull attacks. One attack was an invasion attack. A neighbor's pit bull attacked and then followed the victim into his home through the kitchen door.
The victim said that after the pit bull entered her home, her kids became afraid to go outside, and her toddler was even afraid to go near the door the pit bull invaded through. Her older child was afraid to walk their five-month old dachshund. She started a petition to ban pit bulls and rottweilers.
Another resident reported that her son had also been attacked right after they moved in. She lamented that they thought their move to Smithton was going to be to a safer community and she is very upset that the Village has let her down.

Another resident reported that her son had also been attacked right after they moved in. She lamented that they thought their move to Smithton was going to be to a safer community and she is very upset that the Village has let her down.

Oct 15, 2001 Rockford Pit Bull Attacked Man, is Killed By Police
Rockford - A stray pit bull was shot and killed by police after it attacked a man Sunday.
Sgt. Joe Westmoreland said the dog's owners recently were evicted from their residence but let the dog behind. The dog escaped and found its way inside Winn Tools and Impressions Co., 1308 Barnes St.
When the business owner and an employee, John Korzun, 51, arrived, the dog attacked Korzun, Westmoreland said. The business owner, whose name was unavailable, helped korzun fight the dog off and called 911.
The dog later threatened Rockford firefighters and police officers before it was killed. Korzun was treated by firefighters but refused further treatment.
Winnebago County Animal Control is trying to locate the dog's owner, Westmoreland said. Charges are pending.

May 24, 1991 Oak Park Pit Bull Owner Hit With $1,000 Fine
Oak Park — The Oak Park man whose pit bull bit a neighbor while attacking the neighbor`s dog has been fined $1,000, and the animal was banished from the village and sent for training.
Cook County Judge James Flannery Jr. fined the dog`s owner, James Brown, for five violations of the village`s animal code, said Jack Tibbetts, assistant village attorney.
The incidents helped sparked a campaign for a pit bull ban in Oak Park.
After an attack on a neighborhood dog last fall, the pit bull was accused of entering a neighbor`s home in April and attacking the family dog, a Great Dane. The neighbor tried to break up the fight and was bitten.
If the dog does not shape up while in the care of a trainer, the animal will be put to sleep, according to the judge`s order.
