Nov. 21, 2017 Wheaton Pit Bull Killed Puppy In Front of Children

Wheaton - A brand new puppy named Theo was killed by a pit bull that dashed out of its yard to attack. Theo was being walked on a leash by a mother and two girls aged 7 and 9 who saw their puppy mauled to death.

Wheaton lost a sweet puppy and still has a nasty mauler pit bull

Neighbors say that the pit bull has attacked before. The poor mother and former owner of Theo believes that DuPage animal control will work with her to get rid of the dangerous pit bull. They won't help her. They actively promote pit bulls and they are probably a big reason a pit bull was in the community in the first place.

Wheaton was listed among the "top 25 highest earning towns" on CNNMoney in 2010. Today it has a median family income of $107,763. There are likely no backyard breeders or dogfighters in Wheaton. The pit bulls are likely coming from rescues and shelters that may even import fighting dogs from outside the county and sell them as great family pets to Wheaton residents.

As the pit bull population rises, so will the number of serious attacks in even well-heeled areas of DuPage County.

Elgin residents are well-aware of their persistent dangerous dog problem. This is really a problem that can be documented back decades, and still the city has done nothing about it.

Apr 03, 2017 East Moline Pit Bull Killed a Dog and Was Shot by Police

East Moline - A fatal pit bull attack on another dog went unreported for a week until news outlets reported on the upcoming city council meeting in which the council was expected to discuss a potential muzzle ordinance for all dogs over 40 pounds.

It seems that the city of East Moline has been cowed by pit bull promoters. Journalists know not to report pit bull attacks; this pit bull attack is mentioned only in the video, and is referred to as a “dog fight” in the text of the online story.

The city council won’t propose pit bull regulation to address a pit bull problem. They hoped if they proposed a breed neutral ordinance, pit bull owners wouldn’t go crazy, but nope. They don’t like the breed neutral ordinance either. Since we can’t upset the pit bull advocates for some reason, chances are East Moline will just let pit bull advocates and their pit bulls continue to kill innocent dogs in front of children, and perhaps kill children as well.

Mar 21, 2017 Chicago Pack of Pit Bulls Invade Yard and Kill Beloved Beagle Mix

Chicago - A woman let her beagle mix named Sadie out to relieve herself when 6 stray pit bulls and mixes jumped their fence. Sadie’s owner tried to get Sadie inside, but couldn’t before the pit mixes got to her and mauled her to death.

Sadie was owned by an elderly couple. Both were hearing impaired and the husband was visually impaired as well. Sadie acted as their alert dog and helped them function. Not only is the family devastated by her loss, but her owners don’t have their helper.

Rescuers rounded up the pit bulls and are hoping they can be rehabilitated and adopted out. While a couple rescuers showed genuine concern, most only showed passing concern for Sadie and her family.

Even though the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Animal Care and Control were involved, the media did not pick up this story which is a shame because the publicity might have brought help to the elderly couple.

This is my boy Snickers. He loved and brought a smile to everyone he came in contact with. Last night the neighbors pit bull attacked Snickers while he was in my arms. He died later last night while he was with the Vet overnight. I loved him like a son!!

UPDATE: The Husky has died from a broken neck. Notice that the description of the attack and of the injuries to the husky were both minimized in the original reporting. The pit bull still has not been found.

Round Lake Park - A 68 year old woman was injured when she tried to stop a loose pit bull from attacking her Siberian husky on the 300 block of Grandview Drive in Round Lake Park. An unidentified woman came and took the pit bulls away without identifying herself or offering to pay for the medical damage to the husky.

The husky’s owner was taken to the hospital by ambulance, treated and released and the husky was taken for veterinary care for injuries to its ear “and elsewhere”. Her hands were severely injured. Police are asking for help to find the black pit bull and the owner whom they believe lives in Hainesville. The husky owner wants the pit bull found because it is “obviously dangerous.” Police say if the owner is found there will be charges.

Jan 17, 2017 Hanover Park Pit Bull Killed a Yorkie

Hanover Park - This attack was never reported in the news. In comments, the owner said that the neighbors who were nice people and who loved their pets left the gate to their privacy fence open and the pit bulls got out. They invaded Buddy's yard and killed him.
The owner believes that Illinois should make attacks by dogs on peoples' pets a crime and said she had an appointment to talk to her state senator.

Chicago - While on a walk with his owner, a loose pit bull attacked and killed Oliver, an 8 year old, 8 pound Yorkshire terrier. Oliver was the light of his owner’s life. He did everything and went everywhere with Ashley Dombrow.

Ashley fought hard to pry the pit bull’s jaws open. Then she tried to push Oliver’s intestines back inside his body as she rushed him to the vet, but he passed away.

She sought medical attention because she had bites from trying to get the pit bull to release Olver.

She wrote a long and heartbreaking testament to the love that she had for Oliver and to what a delightful little being Oliver was.

I am incredibly sad to tell you all that today was one of the most horrific days of my life. As I was taking Oliver out for a walk this afternoon, Oliver and I were viciously attacked by a pittbull. I am devastated to tell you all that Oliver did not make it and died as a result of the attack. It was truly one of the most horrific things I have ever experienced.
I was also bitten by the dog and I went to the urgent care hospital but I am fine - I got some shots and antibiotics. The dog that attacked us was not current on his shots, so animal control will have to test the dog for rabies and I may have to get some more treatment for that, but overall, Im physically okay.
As everyone knows, Oliver was the light of my life and that is probably an understatement. He was not just like any other dog, but he was incredibly special and not only special to me, but lit up the lives of everyone that knew him. He was there for me for everything in my life - the good and the bad - he was my baby, my world.
Every morning Oliver and I would wake up, get in the car and go to starbucks. I would get my drink and the people at starbucks would give him a little pup cup with some whip cream. Afterwards we would go on our morning walk and then start the day. Often Oliver would come with me to work or to the container store to design closets, would ride in the car with me everywhere and made friends with everyone he met. Every night we would lay in bed and I would give him a paw massage with his Burts Bee's doggie paw lotion and then he would curl up under my arm and we would go to bed.
Many of you know and love Oliver, and loved getting to spend time with him because he was such a joy to everyone he ever came in contact with. He wasn't really a dog - he was more like a little person. Many of you loved him as if he was your own. He was so special, so wonderful, there truly is no other dog out there like Oliver. He was absolutely the most amazing dog in the world.
I am so devastated I cannot begin to even start to move forward, even though I know I have to. When something terrible like this happens, you see people for who they truly are, and what I learned today was incredible. I have incredible neighbors, who rallied together during the attack to help me in every way possible. They called the police and filed police reports for me, they drove me and Oliver to the hospital, they cried, they hugged, they gathered all my mail (which was all over the place because I had it in my hand during the attack), they brought me flowers, they came to check on me. The people in my community are wonderful. But not only that, my best friend and sister, Anna Paris and my father, Tony Dombrow were there for me in a way I cannot even begin to describe. They were there at the hospital, they supported me, they got me medicine at the drug store, they got me food and water, they held my hand while I was getting shots, they cleaned up the blood I was covered in, they cried, they hugged, and they stayed with me so I wouldn't have to be alone. The words "Thank You" are just not enough. These two people saved my life last summer and they are here to my rescue again. I am incredibly fortunate to have Anna and my Dad.
Also I want to thank the most amazing friends and family, I would never have gotten through today without all of your amazing support. Seriously - I am so lucky to have you. Thank you Lindsey Newett, Samantha G Taylor, Gina Howe (Oliver's other mom and my Mama Gina), Sean Nearey and my Aunt Chris.
Oliver - I miss you and I love you and I know that you are in a better place right now, and that you are with my mom. I will never forget you, you will be with me every day. You were the light of my life and I love you in the most incredible way. There will never be another dog like you, and I am so sorry that you were taken from me this way. I am just so glad that you are not suffering.

Aug 20, 2016 Riverside Dogs Attack People and Kill a Dog

Riverside - An owner of a shepherd/beagle mix and a pit bull was out of the country and left his dogs with a dog walker. While the dog walker was walking the dogs in the affluent suburb on August 16, the shepherd/beagle lunged at a 65 year old man and bit him on his hand and on his chest. That dog had 2 previous bites last year so it was impounded and is to be designated vicious. The 65 year old victim refused an ambulance and said he would get medical attention himself.

Then, on August 18, the same dog walker was walking the pit bull when it saw a Havanese dog, pulled out of its collar and mortally wounded the gentle little dog in what police said was a “gruesome scene.” The 65 year old owner of the Havanese was also viciously attacked when he tried to protect his dog.

Both dogs were removed from the neighborhood and are being kept at a vet clinic until the owner returns to the country. Many people have called police emphasizing that the pit bull attack occurred near a school. The police have assured the citizens of Riverside that the dogs have been removed from the neighborhood.

Riverside Needs to Ban Pit Bulls

Police are acting differently here because Riverside is an affluent village. The median income for a household is $64,931 and for a family $80,146. The entire village is on the National Historic Landmark because it was designed by the Father of Landscape Architecture, Fredrick Law Olmsted and features homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, William Le Baron Jenney, and others.

Elgin - A brown medium sized pit bull with cropped ears and wearing a brown collar came out of nowhere and attacked and killed a leashed Jack Russell Terrier unprovoked and off property.

The Courier-News has cowardly chosen not to call the pit bull a pit bull and instead called the dog a “medium-size brown dog with clipped ears.” This is in service to fighting dog enthusiasts who can’t stop fighting dogs from killing our dogs, so they dictate to news outlets that they must not name pit bulls in the hope that the general public will swallow the lie that any medium sized dog will just rush up and kill a Jack Russell Terrier. They are hoping the community will forget that pit bulls are the only medium sized dog with cropped ears that will likely kill a Jack Russell Terrier.

The Courier-News didn’t bother to report the details of the attack, how the Jack screamed, how the owner was traumatized and devastated by watching this extreme violence.

Do not forget that news outlets reported on the terrible problem Elgin has had with dangerous and killer pit bulls since 2002. Enough of these attacks were reported in the news to keep the public aware of the danger until an exceptionally good investigative report came out in 2012 that very unfavorably compared Elgin’s dog issues with Aurora and Naperville. After that, reporting on Elgin pit bull attacks virtually stopped.

Did the pit bull attacks stop? No. They are just not reported. And now if they are reported, they’ll be reported as a medium-sized dog. The public has no idea if the pit bull problem is getting better or worse or if there are more or fewer attacks in their community because of this combination of not reporting and hiding the breed when pit bulls are involved.

Moline - Three pit bulls have been put down after they killed two Chinese crested dogs that were let out into their own yard. The pit bulls escaped through a gate tied with a bungee cord, entered the neighbors yard and attacked two small dogs. Their 87 year old owner was injured when he tried to protect his dogs from attack.

The pit bull owner voluntarily gave up the pit bulls allowing animal control to put them down.

Original reports indicate “investigators” can’t figure out why the pit bulls attacked and killed dogs unprovoked and off property.

Feb 13, 2016 Roodhouse Bullmastiff Kills Small Dog in His Own Yard

ROODHOUSE — Nancy Edwards was horrified by what she saw last Saturday outside her back door.

She said she watched helplessly as her 3-year-old Yorkshire terrier/dachshund mix dog was attacked and killed by a bullmastiff dog police said got away from its owner.

Fighting back tears, Edwards said she wants a small-breed puppy to replace her dog, Pokey, and made a plea to owners of big dogs that may be aggressive to be more careful.

“Anyone who has a … dog should know how fast they can harm a person or another animal,” Edwards said.

Edwards had let Pokey out about 6:30 p.m. Saturday to “do his business.”

“He was on his chain, which was about 8 feet long, when I heard him bark,” Edwards said. “He barked when it was time to come in. I went to the back door and a bullmastiff dog was [on top of] Pokey.”

Two men and two women tried to get the larger dog off Pokey, who weighed about 10 pounds.

“One of the women came over and pulled on the big dog’s collar to try and get him off Pokey, but he wouldn’t let go,” she said. “He had Pokey in his mouth and was shaking him.”

Despite the efforts, the big dog ran off with Pokey in its mouth. A Roodhouse police officer later found Edwards’ dog dead.

“I got Pokey when he was about 6 to 8 weeks old,” Edwards said. “He was just a happy dog. He slept with me every night. He was very protective of me.”

The bullmastiff’s owner has been cited on a charge of running a dog at large, according to police.

“The dog was wearing a harness,” Roodhouse Police Chief Kyle Robison said. “However, according to the owner of the dog, the dog got out of the house by accident.”

Robison said pet owners in Roodhouse are required to keep all dogs on a leash or in a kennel at all times. He said the bullmastiff is scheduled to be euthanized.

“This is unfortunate for both parties involved,” Robison said. “However, it is especially unfortunate for the Edwards family, who lost their family dog.”

He said the owners of the larger dog were remorseful and were cooperative throughout the process.

Albany - Two dogs described as an english bulldog and a bulldog rottweiler mix have escaped their enclosure for the second time for the express purpose of killing another dog. Both victims look like black labs.

Almost always, when a news account says that an english bulldog was involved in an attack, it tures out to be an Olde English Bulldogge which is a designer mutt of english bulldog with pit bull and other bull breeds.

Commenters on the story are outraged to find that these dogs can go back to their owners after having two kills under their belt because Illinois law says dogs can kill three times before being declared vicious so they can be put down. Many want a change in the law.

However, if residents find out who the owners are and are watchful, they may be able to get another dangerous dog designation before the pit bulldog mixes can kill again. Also, watch to see if the owners are negligent. If they “knowingly” allow their pit bulldogs to roam again, they can get hit with a felony.

(510 ILCS 5/2.05a) Sec. 2.05a. "Dangerous dog" means (i) any individual dog anywhere other than upon the property of the owner or custodian of the dog and unmuzzled, unleashed, or unattended by its owner or custodian that behaves in a manner that a reasonable person would believe poses a serious and unjustified imminent threat of serious physical injury or death to a person or a companion animal or (ii) a dog that, without justification, bites a person and does not cause serious physical injury.

(c) If the owner of a dangerous dog knowingly fails to comply with any order regarding the dog and the dog inflicts serious physical injury on a person or a companion animal, the owner shall be guilty of a Class 4 felony. If the owner of a dangerous dog knowingly fails to comply with any order regarding the dog and the dog kills a person the owner shall be guilty of a Class 3 felony.

Also, being armed and willing to shoot these things if they invade property and threaten any living thing isn’t a bad idea either.

Regardless, the state law needs to be changed. There is no excuse for Illinois essentially deeming the lives of the two victim companion animals - gentle normal dogs - Nitro and Thor - worthless.

2015 Elgin's Pit Bulls Still Attacking; Media Not Covering Them

Elgin has had documented problems with pit bulls and dangerous dogs attacking since at least 2002. There were at least three attempts to pass a pit bull ban to solve this problem. But each attempt was thwarted, the last by interference and intimidation by Best Friends Animal Society in 2010.

Instead, Elgin passed breed neutral ordinances that relied on extremely high fines and restrictions of dogs labeled dangerous or vicious. In an attempt to make their ordinance pro-active, officials have the power to deem dogs that exhibit menacing behaviors as dangerous. But, the result of not directly addressing the problem and not banning pit bulls and instead deeming dogs that bark and growl at people dangerous has created the usual absurd results.

Elgin is home to a chihuahua that never bit anyone that has been put on the dangerous dog list for life. Among the requirements for keeping the chihuahua is a 6 foot fence to contain it. Elgin is also home to a supposed “therapy” pit bull that is also on the dangerous dog list. The pit bull attacked another dog, but the owner believes it has been rehabilitated and is safe and appropriate to bring around the elderly. Neither of these absurd results would have come about if Elgin had recognized breed differences, banned pit bulls, and acknowledged that an aggressive chihuahua might require different restrictions than an aggressive pit bull.

The dangerous therapy pit bull’s owner wanted to change the ordinance so that dogs could be removed from the dangerous dog list after a number of years of good behavior. Thankfully, though Elgin did modify the ordinance, only dogs that have never attacked or bitten are eligible for removal from the dangerous dog list. Now the chihuahua is off the dangerous dog list and in a year a German Shepherd that never bit or attacked can be take off if it behaves. The dangerous therapy pit bull will remain on the list. The dangerous therapy pit bull’s owner claims the therapy dog certification organization and the organization that allows her pit bull to hang out with the elderly know that the pit bull is dangerous.

Since 2012, after an excellent, in depth look at Elgin's dog bite problem by Mike Danahey, someone evidently had a little talk with news agencies because they no longer report on pit bull attacks in Elgin. Though there have been virtually no dog attacks reported in news outlets, pit bulls haven’t stopped attacking. In August of this year the Tribune reported a sampling of the 83 dangerous and 13 vicious dogs listed in Elgin. Six of the 8 dogs they sampled were pits or pit mixes including a pit bull that attacked a chihuahua while the chi was playing with two little girls, another pit bull that burst through a window screen to kill a poodle and another that busted through a fence and attacked two people. In addition, a 7th dog was called a “boxer mix.”

Park Ridge - A pit bull owned by SEAN C. ZULEY has been loose and has attacked dogs and their owners three times.

ZULEY’s pit bull bit a leashed dog on April 16. On April 25 ZULEY’s pit bull attacked another leashed dog on the neck while being walked by two women. One of the women walked ZULEY’s pit bull to the police station.

ZULEY was given three citations and ZULEY’s pit bull was impounded for a 10 day quarantine.

ZULEY failed to appear at two case review Animal Commission meetings in May and June. The owners of the victim dogs were upset that the owner had not shown up, and had not paid the veterinary bills for their dogs. The city replied that the police are not bill collectors. They added that there would be an adjudication process for the city to attempt to claim the unpaid fines, but that they wouldn’t help at all with getting the vet bills paid.

After attacking two leashed dogs unprovoked and off property causing damage that required veterinary aid, the city decided deem ZULEY’s pit bull “at-risk.” The victims did not believe that was strict enough. They also did not think that ZULEY would comply. The city said they thought maybe they could throw some more fines at ZULEY if he did not comply, but they weren’t sure.

The victims all stated that the dog was dangerous and that the Commission’s finding was not strong enough and questioned whether pit bulls were trainable.

The victims were right on all counts and ZULEY’s pit bull was at large again on August 6th and this time when it attacked a leashed dog, it ripped off the dog’s ear and then punctured his skull, killing him. The owner needed to go to the hospital for puncture wounds she received trying to save her dog.

It took two male passersby to beat the ZULEY’s pit bull until it let go. Then the men held the pit bull down until police came.

And still ZULEY gets to keep his dog. There are more restrictions that he will not comply with; ZULEY hasn’t even gotten his pit bull licensed yet.

Lincolnwood - NBC news reported on a pit bull attack on air and got right to the point. However, their online story has careful wording the headline and calls the pit bull "a large breed dog" until the very end of the article to placate pit bull advocates who control media in Illinois. An owned pit bull launched a "vicious" and "horrifying" attack on a beloved yorkshire terrier named Fifi. Fifi was being walked by her 11 year-old owner and her friends in a park at the time. The pit bull came out of nowhere to launch an unprovoked, off property, predatory attack on Fifi. Eleven year old Klaudia Zarebski heroically tried to save Fifi when she saw the pit bull coming for her, but the pit bull literally ripped Fifi out of Klaudia's arms to shake Fifi as if she were nothing but a toy.

The owner got nothing but a slap on the wrist - a ticket for having a dog off a leash. Nothing for allowing his dog to kill.

Fifi was paralyzed and had to be put down at the vet. No word on how much the vet made off of this pit bull's attack. We hope that if the veterinarian is pro-pit bull and anti-BSL that s/he has a strict policy to only receive compensation for her work by the pit bull owner and do this pro bono if the victims have to pay so it doesn't seem as if s/he's taking a position that will benefit her/him financially at the expense of many victims and their families.

The family should dig into the past of the dog and not count on authorities to find past attacks by this pit bull and owner. If there are past attacks, more can be done to get rid of the menace to the neighborhood if the owner is unwilling to do the right thing.
