Oct 13, 2017 Aurora Pit Bulls Seriously Maul 10 yr old Boy

Aurora -
UPDATE: Luke is back home with two family pit bulls who slept with him on his first night back from the hospital.  His mother believes it is how you raise them and is not worried about his safety around their own family pit bulls despite well-raised family pit bulls killing and mauling so many family children.
Some Illinois family or friends' pit bulls that mauled or killed someone in the household:

UPATE: There is a YouCaring fund for the 10 year old victim.  His teacher set it up for him.

"Luke Drees-Segundo is a 10 year old student in my 5th grade class. Luke was attacked by two dogs last Friday, October 13, 2017 as he walked to school in Aurora, IL. He suffered multiple severe wounds to his head, face, and legs. Luke is undergoing treatment for these wounds. He has had two surgeries since admitted and will most likely have to face more. His injuries are very serious, but not life-threatening. Luke is a very brave little boy with a long road ahead of him.
I would like to help out his mom, Denise Drees, with the financial burden. Please help Denise in any way you can. All donations are appreciated and will help her out tremendously. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

UPDATE: The owner found the second pit bull, brought it ins to animal control and both pit bulls were euthanized.  The child has serious but not life threatening injuries and is still in the hospital three days later.
This photo was posted by the Aurora police of the second pit bull which was still loose at the time.

Please Share-We’re working with City of Aurora IL Animal Care and Control in searching for one of two pit bull dogs who mauled and seriously injured a ten-year-old boy around 9:50 a.m. today, October 13, in the 1000 block of Jackson St. The boy was walking to school when he was attacked.
The dogs stopped and ran away when a 31 year old Aurora woman saw the boy being attacked, drove up to the scene, and opened her vehicle door to help him. She then called 911.
The boy received initial treatment at an Aurora hospital and was then transferred to a suburban hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
We have identified the owner of the dogs who lives in unincorporated Aurora and is known to Aurora Animal Care and Control. The missing dog is white with brown patches, has a chubby build and is named “Cash”. Its owner says the dog has been known to run toward Phillips Park in the 1000 block of Ray Moses Drive.
If you see the dog, do not approach it. Instead, call 911 immediately.
The impounded dog, which was captured soon after the attack in the 800 block of Watson, will be observed for rabies before any decision is made about its future. Several citations are pending against the owner from Aurora Animal Care and Control. Since the owner lives in unincorporated Aurora, Kane County Animal Control was also notified of the incident.

Apr 13, 2016 Aurora Pit Bull Attacked a Person and Her Dog in Park

Aurora - A pit bull mix with a history of aggression and biting was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Susan John Park.
Aurora Doesn't Need Pit Bulls
According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, at around 2:07 p.m. April 9, deputies were dispatched to the park, located at 29 Hampton Road in unincorporated Montgomery, for a report of a loose dog being aggressive toward a person and their leashed dog.
When deputies arrived, they found the dog has been shot and killed by a man who witnessed the altercation between the pit bull, person and other dog, police said.

“The person who shot the dog witnessed the aggression of the dog from his home near the park and interceded between the dog and the victim,” police said.

The man had a valid Illinois Concealed Carry License and immediately unloaded his firearm and turned it over to deputies, police said. There were no other injuries.
It was later determined that the dog had a history of aggression and biting, according to police. The sheriff’s office had investigated two previous incidents this year involving the dog. The dog’s owner had been cited twice for no rabies tag and received another citation for a dog running at large.

The dog had also been referred to Kendall County Animal Control for a bite during one of the previous incidents.
The incident is still under investigation.

Jul 01, 2009 Aurora police kill attacking pit bull

Aurora - An Aurora police officer shot a pit bull six times, eventually killing it, after it attacked a girl, mauled another dog and charged the officer, police said.

Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the pit bull bit and knocked down a 13-year-old girl just after 7 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of Jackson Street as she walked to Waldo Middle School. The teen was treated and released from Rush-Copley Medical Center with a bite to the back of her leg.

After it bit the girl, Ferrelli said the pit bull also attacked a golden retriever that was being walked on the east side of Jackson.

Jun 04, 2006 Aurora Pit Bulls Maul Two Women

Aurora - Screaming, punching and kicking, two Aurora women fought off two pit bulls early Saturday, but not before suffering wounds that sent both women to a local hospital.

"They tried to eat us for dinner," a tearful Joan Ware, 44, recalled Saturday afternoon, soon after leaving Rush-Copley Medical Center with 25 stitches on her legs. Ware and friend Katrina Harden, 33, who received five stitches on her left arm, were walking home from a neighbor's house about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when the two roaming dogs attacked.

"We didn't see them until they came between the cars," said Harden, who lives across the street from Ware on the 900 block of 2nd Avenue, where the attack occurred. "We were their target."

After arriving on the scene, Aurora police shot one of the dogs, a 2- or 3-year-old male, and the dog was euthanized later, police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said. The other dog ran away and had not been found by evening. Nor had police determined if the dogs, which were without collars or tags, belonged to anyone.

The incident occurred less than a week after police in Indiana's Lake County seized 15 adult pit bulls and one puppy in a Calumet Township home, where authorities said electric prods, a treadmill, medications and other alleged fighting equipment were discovered. And on Wednesday, Gov. Blagojevich signed three bills that increase penalties for people who allow dangerous animals to run loose or use them to commit crimes.

The Aurora City Council in 2000 put some restrictions on vicious animals, but efforts to restrict ownership of large-breed dogs in the city have failed, said Ald. Stephanie Kifowit.

"I consider pit bulls to be a large-breed dog. They are big, they are all muscle," she said. "We need to dig deep and start looking at our ordinance."

Kifowit said the source of the problem could be more common pit-bull breeding in Aurora.

"You see signs everywhere, `pit bull puppies for sale,'" Kifowit said.

"We need to start looking at more owner responsibility. We must crack down."

Another Aurora alderman, John "Whitey" Peters, agreed that a new ordinance or revision of a current one might be needed.

As for Ware, she said that if the two dogs have owners, she has a message for them: "They should be ashamed of themselves."

Jun 11, 2005 Aurora Pit Bull Mauls 11-Year-Old Boy

Aurora - The owner of a pit bull that mauled an 11-year-old Aurora boy this week will not be charged by police.

Orville Wayne Cockriel was questioned by Aurora police Thursday night after being arrested by Kane County sheriff's deputies. Citing lack of criminal intent, police declined to charge Cockriel, 54, of the 400 block of Dayward Court.

The investigation has been turned over to Aurora animal control authorities, who will decide whether to bring charges under local ordinances, police said.

Sunday night, Cockriel's white pit bull, Popeye, attacked neighbor Xavier Benavidez. The boy was bitten numerous times and received between 30 and 40 stitches to his face, shoulder and ribcage.

The dog was euthanized Monday morning.

Cockriel continues to be held on an arrest warrant for contempt of court over a child-support issue, according to the Kane County sheriff's office.
