Garfield Ridge Chicago – At least one pit bull was running loose in the area and it bit another dog, taking “a good chunk” out of a chocolate Labrador that was being walked by its owner, a neighbor said. The man was able to fight off the attacking animal, the neighbor said.
Police were called, and an officer shot and killed the pit bull in the backyard of a residence where the animal was attacking a second dog, the neighbor said.

The victim, Bill Lesinski, is also a proud pit bull owner and he emphatically wants to make clear that he does not blame the dog even though he believes it should be put down.
He believes the owner of the pit bull is solely to blame for raising the dog wrong. Despite having played with Monster five minutes before the attack and evidently believing Monster was a safe, friendly pit bull, and despite having known Monster since it was a tiny puppy, he believes that his neighbor did something to create this unpredictable and unforeseen violence.
Note that neither the owner nor the victim pit bull owner have jobs or insurance.

Chicago – A northwest side Chicago man faces a mountain of bills and a long road to recovery after a pit bull bit off a portion of his face over the weekend.

"When I crouched down, the dog just lunged at me and grabbed me by the face," said Lesinski. "I have a torn part of the septum, the bottom part of my septum, and they have to reconstruct my whole nose."
That reconstruction will require about six surgeries throughout the next nine to 12 months and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, he said doctors told him.
Mar 31, 2012 Rockford Woman Scared After Mauling by Neighbor's Pit Bull
Rockford - Lisa Jackson was attacked on March 24 by a pit bull.
Jackson said her 3-year-old pug, Daisy, was in the backyard and she was unaware of a freshly dug hole. Suddenly, she found her neighbor’s dog in her yard attempting to confront Daisy.
“Daisy is pregnant,” Jackson said. “I threw myself on her.”
Jackson kept Daisy from harm. She could not do the same for herself.
The pit bull sank its teeth into her left ankle. When she turned to flee, she stepped into a divot and injured her other ankle.
While on the ground, Jackson was mauled. Finally, she was able to grab a stick and forced it into the pit bull’s mouth.
“I wasn’t trying to pry his mouth open,” she said. “I couldn’t.”
Instead, Jackson said she forced the stick into the dog’s throat, hoping it would choke and release its grip.
“I tried to kill it.”
Jackson is scared because after escaping containment and launching an uprovoked, off property attack on a human, the pit bull will be returned to the owner.
