May 16, 2017 Pit Bull Attacks 2 Chicago Cops

Chicago - Two police officers were injured when they were forced to shoot an attacking pit bull. The pit bull was killed, but bullet fragments ricocheted and hit the police officers. One officer was grazed in the leg and the other officer was hit in the foot.

Apr 03, 2017 East Moline Pit Bull Killed a Dog and Was Shot by Police

East Moline - A fatal pit bull attack on another dog went unreported for a week until news outlets reported on the upcoming city council meeting in which the council was expected to discuss a potential muzzle ordinance for all dogs over 40 pounds.

It seems that the city of East Moline has been cowed by pit bull promoters. Journalists know not to report pit bull attacks; this pit bull attack is mentioned only in the video, and is referred to as a “dog fight” in the text of the online story.

The city council won’t propose pit bull regulation to address a pit bull problem. They hoped if they proposed a breed neutral ordinance, pit bull owners wouldn’t go crazy, but nope. They don’t like the breed neutral ordinance either. Since we can’t upset the pit bull advocates for some reason, chances are East Moline will just let pit bull advocates and their pit bulls continue to kill innocent dogs in front of children, and perhaps kill children as well.

Jun 08, 2016 Batavia Pit Bull Shot by Police; Loose and Aggressive

Batavia - A black and white pit bull was loose and when a police officer attempted to leash it, it began repeatedly aggressively charging at the officer. When the officer approached, the pit bull became aggressive and charged the officer several times before knocking the officer down. The officer shot the aggressive pit bull in the side in self defense.

The pit bull ran away and attacked a leashed labrador it encountered. The pit bull is expected to survive. The owner, JENNIFER ATKINSON, was located and ticketed. The same pit bull had bitten a person in April 2015.

May 17, 2016 Boulder Hill Pit Bull Attacked Woman was Bludgeoned and Shot to Death

Boulder Hill - A pit bull attacked it’s owner’s mother outside her home. Neighbors unsuccessfully attempted to stop the attack by hitting the pit bull/American Bulldog mix with a baseball baseball bat.

Kendall Co. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and the pit bull continue to menace everyone on the scene as the victim was receiving medical attention, so with the pit bull victim/caregiver’s permission, an officer shot the pit bull to death.

The daughter lived with her mother. This attack was the second serious attack that required the attacking pit bull to be shot in one month in the small town of Boulder Hill.

Chicago - While a growing number of news outlets around the country are starting to take the issue of pit bull attacks seriously, the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Suntimes reporting is stuck in the “pit bulls before people” style. The headlines in the two major local news outlets mentioned that pit bulls were shot by police without giving one hint about the people the pit bulls were menacing or attacking as if it were more important to know that pit bulls were shot than to know that pit bulls attacked and hurt people.

Fox 32 actually reported some facts, went to the scene and interviewed neighbors most of whom were glad the police got rid of the pit bulls. The police were called because a woman walking her poodle were attacked, and she ran into a store for safety.

We know that one pit bull was shot at the scene, the other ran away and then was found and shot dead. We know no one was hurt. We know that the pit bulls’ owner has not been found. We don’t know if the surviving pit bull will be put down. Most importantly, we don’t know how many pit bulls are shot by police in Chicago in a year. We don’t know that other pit bulls weren’t shot by police on the very same day. And we don’t know why this shooting ended up in the news and another one didn’t.

The pit bull had a history of getting loose, being aggressive and biting.

The pit bull owner previously had been cited for dog running at large and for no rabies tag.

Aurora - A pit bull mix with a history of aggression and biting was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Susan John Park.

Aurora Doesn't Need Pit Bulls

According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, at around 2:07 p.m. April 9, deputies were dispatched to the park, located at 29 Hampton Road in unincorporated Montgomery, for a report of a loose dog being aggressive toward a person and their leashed dog.
When deputies arrived, they found the dog has been shot and killed by a man who witnessed the altercation between the pit bull, person and other dog, police said.

“The person who shot the dog witnessed the aggression of the dog from his home near the park and interceded between the dog and the victim,” police said.

The man had a valid Illinois Concealed Carry License and immediately unloaded his firearm and turned it over to deputies, police said. There were no other injuries.
It was later determined that the dog had a history of aggression and biting, according to police. The sheriff’s office had investigated two previous incidents this year involving the dog. The dog’s owner had been cited twice for no rabies tag and received another citation for a dog running at large.

The dog had also been referred to Kendall County Animal Control for a bite during one of the previous incidents.
The incident is still under investigation.

That's the ignorance of most people. That's exactly what I was talking about earlier most people have no common sense whatsoever in this world. If you don't use the common sense that you were born with you don't need to be here. And that goes for all these ignorant f****** cops out there too. They're so quick to pull their gun on a pit bull or anything that looks like a pitbull. We just had two of them shot down on Humboldt Street in the south side of Peoria Illinois period saw the video no apparent reason whatsoever. There were three black kids that were teasing those dogs one had to run up on a car the other one standing out on the sidewalk with a board in his hand and the other little tired was running around the other side of the car. The cop pulls up with his lights blazing the dogs are barking at those niggars and the cop is hastily pulling out his gun and shot and killed both of them. Why? You got me! I am furious that people are this damn stupid ass ignorant. Ignorance is bliss I guess in some people's eyes but in my eyes it's a waste of space.

Jan 22, 2016 Joliet Pit Bulls Break Owner's Bones and Maul Dog

Joliet - BARBARA SZCZUROWSKI, 60, of the 3300 block of Timbers Edge, was charged with dog bite. The arrest occurred at SZCZUROWSKI’s home.

Officers with the Joliet Police Department responded to a call of a dog bite around 7:55 a.m., according to Joliet Deputy Chief Ed Gregory. As they arrived in the area, they heard gunshots. Officers found a 59-year-old off-duty Forest Preserve District of Will County officer and retired Will County deputy with a gun.

The off-duty officer had received a call from his wife saying that she and her dog, Hannah, a medium-sized brown mix dog, were being attacked by two pit bulls, Mocha and Nala. One pit bull had Hannah by the throat while the other had her by the hind quarters. A neighbor who saw the incident had called the husband, as well.

One of the pit bulls bit the woman so hard it had broken her wrist. A 6-inch tooth also was found at the scene, Gregory said.

The owners got the pit bulls to release their dog, Hannah, and then Hannah ran away.

“Mocha began to run after our off-duty in an aggressive manner,” Gregory said. “He removed his hand gun and discharged three to four rounds, striking it in the face and front leg area.”

Mocha then returned home.

The off-duty officer and his wife later found Hannah on the porch of their home in the 1900 block of Timber Edge, which is the next street over from Timber Edge Circle, but then Nala, one of the pit bulls showed up and Hanna was attacked again.

“This is when our female victim was assisted by other neighbors and started striking the dog with a baseball bat.”

The pit bull ran back to its residence and was brought inside by owner BARBARA SZCZUROWSKI.

Joliet Township Animal Control was called out, but wouldn’t take Mocha because of the severe injuries. The dog was taken to the vet and put down.

Hannah sustained around 60 puncture wounds to her body, but is expected to survive.

Neighbors told police this isn’t the first time the pit bulls have been aggressive and running at large.

SZCZUROWSKI was cited for having a dangerous dog and dogs running at large and was sent a note by the city’s legal department to turn Nala over to Animal Control to determine if the dog is dangerous or vicious.

SZCZUROWSKI’s pit bulls had attacked before in 2013 and the city of Joliet attempted to have SZCZUROWSKI’s dogs deemed dangerous or vicious, but a judge dismissed the charges.

If anyone plans to sue in this case, they better keep a good eye on SZCZUROWSKI because the condo association has filed an injunction against her which may be the reason that her condo is now apparently up for sale.

Chicago - A “Police officer fatally shot a pit bull Friday evening in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side. About 8:30 p.m., the [aggressive pit bull] charged at the officer in the 8200 block of South Maryland, police said. The officer then shot the dog and killed it, police said. The officer was not injured. Additional details were not immediately available.”

About 10 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 9500 block of South Ewing after someone reported seeing a man entering a backyard with a gun, police said.

Officers then saw a man fitting the description they were given leaving a yard with a large pit bull, police said. The man ignored the officers' demands to tie the dog to a fence, police said.

The man released the pit bull which charged the police officers who fired one shot hitting the pit bull. The pit bull later died.

Fox news had the most complete description of the event.

CBS and the Chicago Tribune chose not to inform the public that the dog was a pit bull.

Waukegan - Romena Rhyan was pet sitting for a pit bull named Veyda when a neighbor's pit bull attacked it in her yard. The attack moved into her house. She warned the attacking pit bull's owner she was going to shoot it if he couldn't get it off. He did the "ineffectual tapping of the mauling pit bull's head" that we see so often in videos of pit bulls mauling at the feet of their owners and it didn't work once again. So Rhyan, who was legally armed, shot and killed the mauler at which time the mauling pit bull owner, standing in the blood, asked why she shot his dog.

In Waukegan, pit bulls invading homes and attacking dogs, and private citizens shooting and killing invading pit bulls in their home is evidently so common, it's not even news. This story didn't make the news until shots were fired into Romena Rhyan's house a few days later, presumably in retaliation. Two people have offered reward money for information about the shooter and Romena Rhyan now fears for her life and can't allow her grandchildren to come to her house anymore.

One of the people who offered a reward is Keith Turner, a local activist who loves motorcycles and guns and who might be the person who talked Romena Rhyan into getting a gun in the first place. He probably failed to mention that other people have guns and will not always choose to use them legally when you piss them off with even legal and justified gunfire. A break stick and a pit bull ban would have worked much better here.

In other Waukegan news, the Waukegan Police Animal Control's facebook page is nothing but a pit bull rescue. And has a pit bull for a mascot, complete with police vest.

There's a big drama playing out in the comments section on the AC fb page. Evidently the police arrested a man on Christmas Eve for selling backyard bred pit bull mixes called Olde English Bulldogges without a $25 license. ARRESTED. And they took the puppies from the mother. And the rescue they gave them to immediately turned around and began selling them for $600 a pop. WOW! Soon Waukegan will be facing a lawsuit and people will be breeding pit mixes with impunity. Wait, they already are.

Chicago - A man fatally shot his 1-year-old pit bull after the dog bit his young daughter Monday evening at his Auburn Gresham neighborhood home on the South Side.

The pit bull bit the man's 5-year-old daughter at their home in the 8500 block of South Vincennes about 5 p.m., then tried to attack the owner, who shot the dog and killed it, police said.

The girl was treated on the scene by firefighters for a bite to her hand, police said. She did not require hospitalization.

City Animal Care and Control responded and removed the deceased dog from the home, police said.

The 26-year-old man was in lawful possession of the weapon and will not face charges, according to police.

Hometown - Apollo the pit bull mix had run out of the front door. Hometown police had been alerted, and encountered the dog as he returned to the front yard. Echlin says she tried coaxing Apollo back in the house, but he turned and bared his teeth at one of the officers. According to police, that's when the officer withdrew his weapon and fired one shot, striking the dog.

Echlin says she questioned the use of deadly force- especially in front of her daughter- but she says the officer showed no remorse.

Joliet - Real winner pit bull owners, who police say appeared very wasted, stiffed a cabbie in front of their house. When the cabbie called police, the couple refused to talk to police, threatened to sic their crazy pit bull on them, and then did sic their crazy aggressive pit bull on police who were forced to shoot and kill it. The pit bull owners were charged with several offenses including possession of drug paraphernalia, battery and theft of labor.
