My dog and I were attacked by a gray pitbull on the 2900 block of W.Belmont on 4/14/11 at 6:45 AM. The owner is a white male, possible mid-thirties. I believe he lives in the neighborhood. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My dog got attacked by a pitbull two weeks ago, while we were on a walk. The dog jumped the fence of his yard, and the neighbor's yard. I hope you and your dog are ok. Animal Control has been extremely helpful, you may want to call them. 312.747.1412.

I did contact them. I also gave them a possible address today of where the dog may live, after talking to some neighbors. Was the dog that attacked you a blue/ gray pitbull? I hope you and your dog are ok.

We are doing ok, my dog is only 30 pounds and suffered various puncture wounds, but the owners were able to get their dog off of him. Animal Ark is close by, maybe they have seen this dog? Good luck, such a terrible thing to happen.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog! That's horrible. Unfortunately, when it gets nice out this can happen. I live in this area and have not noticed that dog. However, there is a white/tan pitbull in the neighborhood that I've noticed. Every once in a while there are 2 younger hispanic males that walk him around the block south of Belmont between Francisco and Sacramento. I've noticed them taking the dog in front of other dog's houses and having him rile up the dogs. They have also lingered in front of my building which makes me nervous for my dogs. I haven't seen him in a few weeks, but if you spot them be careful.

Apr 15, 2011 Animal control cuts may bite back in Waukegan

Waukegan – At the April 4 council meeting, animal control officer Nicole Garza – one of those facing the prospect of layoff – told the gathering that, "we're opening the door to saying 'sue us'" if the city cuts two animal wardens as proposed.

"We deal with dangerous dogs. Waukegan is known for them. Unfortunately, we are a town for pit bulls," Garza said

Apr 07, 2011 Danville Letter to Editor: Dogs Kill Pet Cat name Pumpkin

Letters to the Editor

Editor:

DANVILLE — On March 19, two large dogs were running around the Holiday Hills subdivision. They entered my yard on Hillside Drive and killed my precious cat, Pumpkin. He was the smartest, most adventurous boy. He was the alpha in the house and in my heart. He was unhappy being confined by walls, so I let him spend time in the backyard. My heart is devastated, and a part of me has died.

I ask all residents of Holiday Hills and Danville to call animal control or the Humane Society if they see these two dogs, or any dog running loose. One is a brown pit-bull mix. The other is a white Labrador mix. Since these dogs have tasted blood, they will kill again. The next victim might be your small dog, cat or baby. These dogs are a danger to small children and infants.

The dogs who killed my cat did not wear collars. Do they have up-to-date rabies vaccines? If anyone knows any animal that is abused or neglected, please call the police or Humane Society. What if you, the human, were created as a dog who had to spend all its time alone or always tied to a tree or was hungry?

These dogs may have been hungry. I chased them away before they ate my Pumpkin. I quickly took my baby to a clinic, but a 10-pound cat cannot survive a bite to the throat from a 75-pound dog. If any person does claim these wild beasts, he or she should pay my veterinarian’s and cremation bills.

Danville does have a leash law. Please, everyone needs to help to put a stop to unsupervised dogs before another life gets injured or killed or causes a vehicle accident.
