Jun 28, 2012 Dog bites hand of USPS worker


CRYSTAL LAKE – A pit bull bit a U.S. Postal Service worker’s hand Tuesday as he worked his Crystal Lake mail route, officials said.

The dog, named Lucy, was unleashed and unattended when the bite occurred at 2:44 p.m. Emergency workers found Lucy on the front porch of her home in the 800 block of Boxwood Drive. Her owner arrived shortly after the incident.

Mar 25, 2012 McCaleb: No excuse for unleashed dogs roaming streets

Judging by the comments to the story, McHenry county residents have indeed forgotten the horrific attack on Nick Foley and Jourdan Lamarre.  It should never be forgotten.

Crystal Lake - In the past two weeks, the Northwest Herald has reported on two violent incidents involving uncontrolled dogs in the county. (all dogs described as pit bull type dogs)

As for dog owners who don’t properly control their pets, including leashing them at all times in public places, have you not learned from the 2005 Cary pit bull attacks?

No one wants another story like the 2005 pit bull attacks.

Not now, not ever.

Owner puts pit bull down after attack on other dog

Crystal Lake— A 3-year-old pit bull was euthanized Wednesday, a day after it broke through a patio screen door in Crystal Lake and attacked a Labrador retriever, according to police and a relative of the pit bull's owner.

The incident happened about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, when the pit bull, Shady, charged into an apartment in the 300 block of First Court and attacked the 11-year-old lab owned by Cristina Orton, Crystal Lake police said.

"We had to do it," Paulsen said. "We were told petitions were being signed, that the neighborhood was afraid. We called every pit bull rescue we could find, but no one would help. It was the only thing we could do."
