"Luke Drees-Segundo is a 10 year old student in my 5th grade class. Luke was attacked by two dogs last Friday, October 13, 2017 as he walked to school in Aurora, IL. He suffered multiple severe wounds to his head, face, and legs. Luke is undergoing treatment for these wounds. He has had two surgeries since admitted and will most likely have to face more. His injuries are very serious, but not life-threatening. Luke is a very brave little boy with a long road ahead of him.
I would like to help out his mom, Denise Drees, with the financial burden. Please help Denise in any way you can. All donations are appreciated and will help her out tremendously. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

UPDATE: The owner found the second pit bull, brought it ins to animal control and both pit bulls were euthanized. The child has serious but not life threatening injuries and is still in the hospital three days later.

Please Share-We’re working with City of Aurora IL Animal Care and Control in searching for one of two pit bull dogs who mauled and seriously injured a ten-year-old boy around 9:50 a.m. today, October 13, in the 1000 block of Jackson St. The boy was walking to school when he was attacked.

The dogs stopped and ran away when a 31 year old Aurora woman saw the boy being attacked, drove up to the scene, and opened her vehicle door to help him. She then called 911.

The boy received initial treatment at an Aurora hospital and was then transferred to a suburban hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

We have identified the owner of the dogs who lives in unincorporated Aurora and is known to Aurora Animal Care and Control. The missing dog is white with brown patches, has a chubby build and is named “Cash”. Its owner says the dog has been known to run toward Phillips Park in the 1000 block of Ray Moses Drive.

If you see the dog, do not approach it. Instead, call 911 immediately.

The impounded dog, which was captured soon after the attack in the 800 block of Watson, will be observed for rabies before any decision is made about its future. Several citations are pending against the owner from Aurora Animal Care and Control. Since the owner lives in unincorporated Aurora, Kane County Animal Control was also notified of the incident.

Carpentersville - What must have been a pit bull seriously attacked a sweet dog named Buddy after invading Buddy’s own backyard. Buddy’s owner found out that virtually nothing would be done to stop another attack by the same pit bull, so he asked the Carpentersville Board of Trustees to look into it.

Though the press and the board have gone to extremes to hide and protect pit bulls, board meeting minutes show that the board looked at BSL which is a sure sign it was a pit bull that attacked. They went to extremes to avoid leaving a public record of their discussions about pit bulls. Though two of the discussions about dangerous dogs were conducted in open sessions and open sessions are videotaped, the two discussions about dangerous dog laws and Buddy's attack were scheduled after breaks. The video stopped for the break and there is no video of the open meeting after the breaks.

Though the board of trustees did discuss dangerous dog breed bans and the ban on BSL in Illinois, no one brought up the fact that, as a home rule city, Carpentersville can implement BSL despite the statewide ban. And they should do so for the protection, well-being, and sustained quality of life of Carpentersville citizens.

The upshot is that Carpentersville refuses to protect people and pets from pit bulls and first time attacks will continue as usual. With the new regulations, if people bother to comply, it could get expensive and more difficult to keep dangerous and vicious dogs. And yeah, it is AOK to keep vicious dogs in Carpentersville. It is even OK to keep a dangerous dog on a property that does not allow a fence to be built.

The extent to which Illinois cities are willing to twist and contort themselves to protect mauling pit bulls and their owners would be hilarious if it were not so extremely amoral and if the burden citizens will bear in injury and death were not so heavy to bear.

Elgin - A brown medium sized pit bull with cropped ears and wearing a brown collar came out of nowhere and attacked and killed a leashed Jack Russell Terrier unprovoked and off property.

The Courier-News has cowardly chosen not to call the pit bull a pit bull and instead called the dog a “medium-size brown dog with clipped ears.” This is in service to fighting dog enthusiasts who can’t stop fighting dogs from killing our dogs, so they dictate to news outlets that they must not name pit bulls in the hope that the general public will swallow the lie that any medium sized dog will just rush up and kill a Jack Russell Terrier. They are hoping the community will forget that pit bulls are the only medium sized dog with cropped ears that will likely kill a Jack Russell Terrier.

The Courier-News didn’t bother to report the details of the attack, how the Jack screamed, how the owner was traumatized and devastated by watching this extreme violence.

Do not forget that news outlets reported on the terrible problem Elgin has had with dangerous and killer pit bulls since 2002. Enough of these attacks were reported in the news to keep the public aware of the danger until an exceptionally good investigative report came out in 2012 that very unfavorably compared Elgin’s dog issues with Aurora and Naperville. After that, reporting on Elgin pit bull attacks virtually stopped.

Did the pit bull attacks stop? No. They are just not reported. And now if they are reported, they’ll be reported as a medium-sized dog. The public has no idea if the pit bull problem is getting better or worse or if there are more or fewer attacks in their community because of this combination of not reporting and hiding the breed when pit bulls are involved.

2015 Elgin's Pit Bulls Still Attacking; Media Not Covering Them

Elgin has had documented problems with pit bulls and dangerous dogs attacking since at least 2002. There were at least three attempts to pass a pit bull ban to solve this problem. But each attempt was thwarted, the last by interference and intimidation by Best Friends Animal Society in 2010.

Instead, Elgin passed breed neutral ordinances that relied on extremely high fines and restrictions of dogs labeled dangerous or vicious. In an attempt to make their ordinance pro-active, officials have the power to deem dogs that exhibit menacing behaviors as dangerous. But, the result of not directly addressing the problem and not banning pit bulls and instead deeming dogs that bark and growl at people dangerous has created the usual absurd results.

Elgin is home to a chihuahua that never bit anyone that has been put on the dangerous dog list for life. Among the requirements for keeping the chihuahua is a 6 foot fence to contain it. Elgin is also home to a supposed “therapy” pit bull that is also on the dangerous dog list. The pit bull attacked another dog, but the owner believes it has been rehabilitated and is safe and appropriate to bring around the elderly. Neither of these absurd results would have come about if Elgin had recognized breed differences, banned pit bulls, and acknowledged that an aggressive chihuahua might require different restrictions than an aggressive pit bull.

The dangerous therapy pit bull’s owner wanted to change the ordinance so that dogs could be removed from the dangerous dog list after a number of years of good behavior. Thankfully, though Elgin did modify the ordinance, only dogs that have never attacked or bitten are eligible for removal from the dangerous dog list. Now the chihuahua is off the dangerous dog list and in a year a German Shepherd that never bit or attacked can be take off if it behaves. The dangerous therapy pit bull will remain on the list. The dangerous therapy pit bull’s owner claims the therapy dog certification organization and the organization that allows her pit bull to hang out with the elderly know that the pit bull is dangerous.

Since 2012, after an excellent, in depth look at Elgin's dog bite problem by Mike Danahey, someone evidently had a little talk with news agencies because they no longer report on pit bull attacks in Elgin. Though there have been virtually no dog attacks reported in news outlets, pit bulls haven’t stopped attacking. In August of this year the Tribune reported a sampling of the 83 dangerous and 13 vicious dogs listed in Elgin. Six of the 8 dogs they sampled were pits or pit mixes including a pit bull that attacked a chihuahua while the chi was playing with two little girls, another pit bull that burst through a window screen to kill a poodle and another that busted through a fence and attacked two people. In addition, a 7th dog was called a “boxer mix.”

Elgin - "On Monday, August 3 my miniature dachshund, Bella, got attacked by a Pit Bull that was off of its property and not on a leash at 766 Wing street in Elgin around 1:30 pm in the afternoon. The dog rushed us on the sidewalk as we were walking toward it, with both of mine on leashes.

I reached to scoop up both my dogs and I could only get to one of them, Dori, before the pit went for Bella. I tried blocking with my body and wrestling the dog to keep it away. The pit bull grabbed Bella by the lower torso and had her in its jaws, up in the air.

I screamed for help. the dog owner was no where in sight. A woman stopped her car in the middle of Wing street to help. She is the real hero here and I am so thankful for her bravery in punching this animal down until it released my Bel.

Bella was treated at the ER for extensive bruising, puncture wounds, and pain. Thankfully no broken bones or internal damage. She is recovering and getting better by the day. I pressed criminal charges against the dog owner residing at 766 Wing St.

If anyone witnessed this or if the brave woman who helped me wishes to offer testimony, I would surely appreciate it and like to thank her again. Either way, I'm seeking justice to protect this from happening again to another animal or child.

East Dundee - Patrol pit bulls: This is about the East Dundee police worrying about dogs urinating on snow when there are loose pit bulls running around in the Terrace. They do nothing about it even though it has been reported. The seniors can't even walk outside because of these animals. Someone needs to take action against these pit bulls.

Oct 23 2014 Mail carrier attacked by pit bull in Carpentersville

Carpentersville - a mail carrier was taken to the hospital Thursday after a pit bull busted through a screen door and attacked her.

The mail carrier has bites and cuts on her arm and head and she is reported to be recovering, but no news outlets have even reported whether she is still in the hospital or has gone home.

Animal control officials caught the dog and took him to Dundee Animal Hospital for observation, police said.

Police continue to investigate, and have not yet determined whether the dog's owner will be charged.

St. Charles - A loose pit bull attacked and seriously injured a much larger newfoundland.

A witness who reported the attack said, “The dog was bleeding profusely (literally pouring like a faucet) and the owner was really shaken up.”

The newfoundland survived with serious injuries.

The pit bull owner, following the pit bull owner's code of ethics, left the scene without taking responsibility or sharing contact information.

Neighbors are concerned for the safety of the neighborhood with the pit bull there.

Batavia - A labrador owner walking her dog saw a pit bull run across a busy road straight at her and her dog. The pit was struck and killed by a SUV. The labrador owner was upset seeing the pit bull killed and seeing how upset the pit bull owner and SUV driver were. But she is also worried because she believes that pit bull might have been charging towards her dog to attack it. She may never walk her dog again.

Another commenter adds that her dog was just attacked by her neighbor's pit bull to the tune of $1,000.

Just as developers of the pit bull terrier cross bred terriers with bulldogs to give them deadly gripping traits, developers of the bullmastiff were bred from 60% mastiff and 40% bulldog to create a more aggressive mastiff.

As has been widely reported, the bullmastiff was a new addition to the family and the dogs were not getting along together. There has been speculation that Brown attempted to break up a dogfight.
Dawn Brown was a gripping breed lover. Her two other dogs were a pit bull mix and a boxer.

The bullmastiff was euthanized.

Sep 12, 2012 Thank you Virginia for keeping weapons grade pit bulls from coming to Elgin, Illinois

Loudoun VA - Tremain Dene Johnson, 44, of Lithonia, Ga., and Harry Ortice Puckett, 33, of Elgin, Ill., are charged with importing pet dogs into the Commonwealth of Virginia from another state without certificate of veterinary inspection, a Class 1 misdemeanor.

The men were stopped on the Dulles Greenway when an Loudoun Animal Control officer...found the men were in possession of 10 dogs that appeared to be pit bulls or pit bull mixes of varying ages and degrees of health.

“By law we can seize animals if we feel their health is a direct or immediate threat. These dogs met that criteria and we had grounds for seizing,” said Adrienne Burton, chief of Loudoun County Animal Control.

Aug 06, 2012 Police: South Elgin officer kills pit bull attacking family

This pit bull attack occurred in the small Village of South Elgin which is not to be confused with the City of Elgin. South Elgin has a median household income of $80,879; 3% of the population lives below the poverty level; has a 90.6% home ownership rate.

South Elgin - Police Sgt. Craig Steurer was called to a dog attack in progress in a South Elgin home. He said he could tell by the call that this was no "normal" bite and release kind of dog attack.

When he arrived, he found the woman faintly crying for help, lying motionless face down on the floor with a pit bull clamped on her arm. Steurer reported that she was completely covered in smeared blood.

The pit bull was "actively chewing and pulling on her right arm."

He managed to get the pit bull off her, but when it appeared menacing, he shot the pit in the head.

Sgt Steurer is being hailed as a hero. This is not the first time he has had to shoot a pit bull to stop it from attacking. Last year he shot a pit bull that was biting the heel of a fellow officer on duty.

He said that what went through his mind was, "The damage these things can do."

The woman's niece and nephew had closed themselves in a bedroom, but the nephew had also been bitten.

Initial reports said that both the woman and the nephew had been taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and later had to be transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hosptial in Park Ridge with serious injuries.

Jun 25, 2012 Elgin police shoot 23 dogs, killing 19, since 2008

Mike Danahey's report reveals that Elgin has had far more reports of dangerous dog attacks and bites than a comparable city of Aurora. Most of them were pit bulls. Elgin police have had to shoot far more dogs than Aurora, but in both cities, pit bulls are the type of dog they are forced to shoot the most.

(Click to make larger.) Note that one dangerous dog owner lives in an apartment building and in two other areas, home owners are hemmed in by multiple dangerous dogs within blocks of each other. Ah, the good life in Elgin!

Elgin - Since Jan. 1, 2008, Elgin police have shot a total of 23 dogs over the course of responding to 16 separate calls. All but four of the shootings resulted in killing the dogs — significantly more than in the larger Kane County cities of Aurora or Naperville.

Theriault said that during that period, 348 tickets were issued for dogs roaming at large; 180 were citations for a dog not having a collar and tags; 141 were for not having rabies vaccinations; 111 were issued for bites or attacks; 107 were for animals displaying dangerous behavior; four were for dogs in heat roaming loose; and two were for having farm animals in town.

He also noted that between Jan. 1, 2008, and March 20, 2012, 9,901 dog complaint calls were made in Elgin, 392 of those initially coming in as dog bites.

Yes, you read that right, Elgin received 9,901 dog complaint calls in a span of 4 years and 3 months.
