East Alton - A woman was walking her labrador retriever on a leash in her own front yard when a loose pit bull owned by RAYE C. MOORE attacked them both causing severe physical injuries.

"The plaintiff alleges McLaughlin failed to properly supervise her pet when outside and exposed to other animals, failed to properly train her dog to avoid harming other animals or individuals and failed to warn others about the dangers of owning a pit bull.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount greater than $50,000, plus costs of suit and any other further relief as the court deems just and proper. "

Wood River - “Police responded to the report of a dog attacking another dog and a bystander on Thursday morning. A responding police officer used his Taser to stop the dog from attacking a man, forcing the pit bull to release its hold and run away. The dog was later captured.

The incident began around 8am as a man was walking his dog on West Jennings. The pit bull reportedly jumped over a fence and started biting the other dog, a black lab. The owner of the lab yelled for help, and a neighbor called police. In the meantime, at least two other people tried to stop the pit bull, one using a broom handle and another a wooden chair. The man using the chair was then attacked by the pit bull when the dog bit his arm. The police officer arrived shortly after, and used the Taser on the animal. Madison County Animal Control is currently holding the pit bull as the investigation continues. “

Neighbors credit a thick leather collar the lab was wearing for saving the lab's life because the pit bulls was savagely attacking the lab.

Woodstock - Two pit bulls attacked a lab and a poodle in separate attacks on July 11 in rural Woodstock. In the first incident, the pit bulls allegedly attacked a Labrador retriever. A passerby found the injured Labrador lying in the ditch next to the road, one neighbor reported. The dog was taken to an emergency animal hospital in Crystal Lake for treatment.

Later in the day, the same two pit bulls allegedly attacked a small poodle further down the road. The homeowner shot one of the attacking pit bulls, authorities said. The poodle and the injured pit bull were taken to an emergency animal hospital in Crystal Lake for treatment. The whereabouts of the second pit bull is unknown.

Animal Control spokesperson Debra Quackenbush said the injured pit bull was eventually transferred into Animal Control’s care, and the dog later died. Quackenbush said the dog succumbed to injuries it sustained while fighting with the poodle and not from a gunshot wound.

Chicago - A Chicago couple is suing their landlord over claims his Pit Bull attacked their Labrador in their shared backyard on the day they moved in, causing injuries to them and their dog.

On that day, the suit says, the Clearys moved into a the second floor apartment in a two-flat building in the 3600 block of North Tripp Avenue that Weinberg owned and lived in. They say Weinberg had a Pit Bull and they had a Lab and a Chihuahua.

While Weinberg told them his dog was friendly and harmless, the plaintiffs claim the Pit attacked their Lab after Tiffany Cleary and her dogs came into the backyard following a walk. The suit says Weinberg’s dog was unleashed and latched onto the Lab’s neck.

While trying to pry the Pit Bull off their Lab, David Cleary claims he sustained a puncture wound to his left hand and Tiffany Cleary claims she suffered neck and back injuries. They also claim their dog sustained neck wounds and they suffered post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression and sleep disorders as a result of the incident.

Rockford - This is an attack that was not reported in the media. A loose pit bull attacked a lab being walked on the street. The lab required veterinary care.

Champaign - While attempting to save a labrador that was being attacked by a pit bull, police accidentally shot the labrador.

The victim dog was an exceedingly well-trained, gentle labrador retriever that was a beloved and cherished pet. The owner's daughter had to witness a protracted attack by an aggressive pit bull and then see her dog shot dead.

The young woman was walking her dog on a leash when a pit bull ran up to them for the express purpose of attacking her dog. The woman and another person tried to kick the pit bull off the lab, but when police arrived, the pit bull was still attacking the lab.

In an attempt to kill the pit bull and save the labrador, a police officer accidentally fatally shot the labrador.

The story on Illinois homepage.net headlines this as a dog fight when it is revealed that the victim dog was an exceedingly well-trained, gentle dog. This was NOT a dog fight. This was an attack by a fighting breed dog on a beloved, cherished and well-trained pet in a supposedly civilized society.

which are almost exactly like those described in this attack.

Evanston - A woman in her 70s and her labrador retriever mix were attacked by a pit bull. The attack was protracted and when police arrived the pit bull had cornered the lab in a vestibule, and was still attacking it.

A neighbor attempted to stop the pit bull by throwing a brick paver at it, but that did not faze the pit bull. When police arrived, the lab was bleeding heavily and the pit bull was STILL attacking it and the elderly owner.

The owner was bitten multimple times in the leg, and the labrador retriever mix had extensive bites on the neck, back, shoulder and leg. Police shot and killed the attacking pit bull.

The owner of the pit bull has been identified and will probably be cited after the animal Warden has collected evidence.

Garfield Ridge Chicago – At least one pit bull was running loose in the area and it bit another dog, taking “a good chunk” out of a chocolate Labrador that was being walked by its owner, a neighbor said. The man was able to fight off the attacking animal, the neighbor said.

Police were called, and an officer shot and killed the pit bull in the backyard of a residence where the animal was attacking a second dog, the neighbor said.

Galesburg - According to police reports, when officers responded to 1916 E. Main St., the owner said she had gone to Macomb and left her two pit bulls and a lab mix with a friend. When she returned home, her daughter found one of the dogs had been attacked and partially eaten by another.

The friend said she called the owner around 7 p.m. Wednesday to tell her to come home and take care of the dogs. The animals would not let either her or her husband in to feed them...

Jan 29, 2009 Orland Park man fatally shoots neighbor's pit bull

Orland Park police are investigating a dogfight last week that led to a local man fatally shooting his neighbor's pit bull.

The homeowner told police that he shot the dog, killing it, after it attacked his yellow Labrador retriever in the backyard of his house in the 16600 block of Robinhood Drive, police said. The Labrador was taken to a veterinarian where it had a neck wound and a paw sutured to stop the bleeding, police said.

Notice the Tribune calls this a dogfight. It was not. This was a marauding fighting dog that attacked a normal dog on its own property.
