Peggy Sue Leifer is the wife of ex-marine, retired Chicago cop, and stroke survivor Jim Sak. They lived in Chicago until the end of 2011 when they moved to Leifer's hometown of Aurelia Iowa. The city of Aurelia had recently enacted a ban on pit bulls in response to specific public safety problems the city was facing with regards to pit bull attacks.

The city of Aurelia, IA, responding to a petition from residents, enforced the pit bull ban it has had on the books since 2008. The pit bull in question is none other than Snickers, Sak and Leifer's pit bull which they allege is Sak's service dog. And now Sak and Leifer are suing the city of Aurelia with monetary and other support from Animal Farm Foundation, a pit bull ownership advocacy group.

Jan 24, 2012 Dogs Shot by Elmhurst Police During Attack

Elmhurst – Police responded to the home at 4:57 p.m. after receiving a report that two pit bulls were attacking people inside. When police arrived, one of the pit bulls was still attacking one of the victims, who was covered in blood. An officer shot the dog.

One of the victims was taken to Loyola University Medical Center due to the seriousness of the injuries. The second victim was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

The initial commenters to Elmhurst Patch story believe that a pit bull attacking its owners is very rare and odd. Others are suggesting that the owners must have been abusing the dog. They must not be aware of Darla Napora's or Joseph Hines' mauling deaths a few months ago. Both were reportedly devoted owners and the dogs were never known to be aggressive. Darla was a supporter and follower of BADRAP.

One pit bull owner on the Elmhurst Patch comments section launched such a vile invective that the reporter was prompted to write a second article called: "'Blame the Victim' Mentality is Unfounded and Hurtful." Edit: the negative comments have subsequently been removed.

This is the second fine for Collier regarding the dog - a 4-year-old pit bull named Karma. In September, Collier was fined $125 for the same thing: Karma got loose and attacked another dog, across the street from the Hash home.

Thank you mrx for the website. I did read the information and feel that I am better educated about pit bulls. A pit bull attacked my nephew when he was 7 years old. He will be turning 18 in April. He has had 3 plastic surgeries to his face. His face looked like a rail road track with all the stitches. His face was so swollen that he was not recognisable. The dog belonged to his grandmother on his dads side. My sister sued her mother in law, my nephew will be getting a well deserved insurance settlement when he turns 18. What was my nephew doing to provoke the pit bull? He was lying on the floor in front of the television coloring. All pit bulls should be shot!

Another Chicago pit bull owner flees the scene of a serious attack

Chicago – Last Saturday, around 4:30pm, on Leland between Magnolia and Malden, a Chow puppy was attacked by a large dark gray pit bull or pit bull mix. Both animals were on leashes; the woman walking the pit bull could not control her dog and was dragged across the street as it went after the six-month-old puppy.

The puppy suffered some serious injuries, but will be okay, thanks to the talented veterinarians at Chicago Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center on Clybourn:

"Lily’s rear leg was covered in bite marks and was broken and the bone was protruding through the skin. The great doctors at the clinic, especially Dr. Vinayak, the orthopedic surgeon, were able to save Lily’s leg by placing 7 screws in the leg. Lily spent 4 days at the clinic and will be in a cast and on 3 medications for the next 6 weeks. I am very grateful, as I know this could have been much worse."

Jan 13, 2012 Man arrested after dog attacks girl

HUTSONVILLE – An Illinois man will appear in court after his dog attacked an 8-year-old girl.

Crawford County police authorities say the pitbull-rottweiler mix belonging to Clinton Woosley, 36, Hutsonville, Ill., attacked Kelcee Lowrance, 8, Hutsonville, Ill Tuesday.

Police say Lowrance was severely injured and was taken to the hospital.

As of Thursday afternoon, Lowrance was recovering from surgery to reattach her right ear and also from work on her right arm.

A Free Will Donation Soup Supper Benefit for Kelcee Lowrance has been planned for Thursday, January 26 from 4pm to 8pm at Hutsonville Elementary School.
